Dr. Christa Weßel MPH

Biography, some remarks

"Dr Weßel, you are optimistic!" stated a professor at the end of a talk I gave several years ago at Fulda University of Applied Sciences (blog 16 May 2012). The talk and our dialogue was about the challenges in health care even then. Since several decades we fight against skilled worker shortage and there is the conflict between market economy and supply of necessary services. "That's right. If I would not be optimistic I could stop right now and here. We will carry it off, because ...

the glas is half-full." The students and several other professors did likewise see half-full glasses. Appreciative Inquiry is based upon this perception (blog 21 Jan 2017). Each question is an intervention (Lewin) and thus causes und fosters change. The work with patients, students, clients, colleagues, managers and staff members led to the selection of my motto ... or was and is it just the other way round?

"If you want to build a ship,

don't drum up the men to gather wood,

divide the work and give orders.

Instead, teach them to yearn

for the vast and endless sea."

[attributed to Antoine de Saint Exupéry 1900-1944]

It is a joy to build together a "ship", in a shipyard, a hospital, a university, a school, a company, an agency and much more.
